ABOUT THE SHOW

A seamless pairing of March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, two acclaimed Off-Broadway musicals written nearly a decade apart, Falsettos is the tale of a neurotic New Yorker named Marvin, who leaves his wife Trina and young son Jason to live with his lover, Whizzer. In time, Trina marries his psychiatrist, Whizzer leaves him, and Marvin ends up alone. Two years later, Marvin and Whizzer reunite on the eve of Jason’s bar mitzvah, just as AIDS is beginning its insidious spread. With the help of their neighbors, Charlotte and Cordelia, Marvin and his entire family learn to grow up and face their future with love and dignity

NOTE: In reference to the character descriptions below- The characters in this show are on the binary and written with he/him or she/her pronouns as you will see in the following descriptions. However, we seek to be as inclusive as possible and ask gender non-conforming, gender queer, transgender and non-binary actors to list on the audition form the roles they most identify with.

Marvin: Male-identifying, 30s-40s. Strong tenor. Charismatic, flawed, trying to build the “perfect” family while learning to accept himself.

Trina: Female-identifying, 30s-40s. Mezzo with strong mix. Neurotic, funny, emotionally complex.

Whizzer: Male-identifying, 20s-40s. Tenor. Confident, magnetic, vulnerable beneath the surface.

Jason: Male-identifying, plays 12-14. Strong singer/actor with excellent focus and emotional nuance.
